SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - San Bernardino police are searching for an 18-year-old suspect who slipped out of handcuffs and escaped from a patrol car.

Officials say Eddie Betancourt was arrested Monday on suspicion of robbery and placed in the back of the police vehicle. At some point he managed to remove one of his cuffs and reach out the car window that was open slightly.

He then opened the car door and ran off without being spotted by officers.

The Sun newspaper says (https://bit.ly/1Ry8C8G ) it’s unclear if Betancourt, a San Bernardino resident, still has the handcuffs attached to his other hand.

Police did not release details of the alleged robbery.
