CARTERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois winery that wants to expand into a destination resort is betting on a state gambling expansion to help fulfill its vision.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan (bit.ly/1pbTqb2 ) reports that Walker’s Bluff in Carterville hopes to build a 300-room hotel, indoor water park and conference center at the winery.

Owner Cynde Bunch says that vision includes a gambling license.

A proposal to add casinos in Chicago’s south suburbs as well as smaller gambling venues in southern Illinois failed to gain much traction in the 2015 legislative session.

Several southern Illinois lawmakers tell the newspaper they support the project but aren’t certain a gambling expansion is needed.
