TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A highway welcome center at the northern border of Miller County is getting an upgrade of more than $2.5 million.

The Texarkana Gazette (https://bit.ly/1SwC0ku ) reports that the new building at Red River Welcome Center on U.S. Highway 71 will feature rock and log construction similar to the Interstate 30 welcome center.

The new building will include a coffee bar, a computer information desk, seating areas and an information desk staffed by Arkansas Parks and Tourism employees who can assist travelers.

Contech Contractors Inc. of Texarkana, Texas, was awarded the project contract. Site clearing for the new building began in early February.

The existing center will remain open during construction of the new building, but will be removed afterward. The new center is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2017.
