MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University will launch a degree program in music therapy.

The university says in a news release that the WVU Faculty Senate approved the new major on Monday.

WVU College of Creative Arts dean Paul Kreider says the major is in response to a strong demand nationally for board-certified music therapists who work in a variety of settings. Among those settings are hospitals, hospice care, mental health agencies, rehabilitation centers and schools.
