HOLLY HILL, S.C. (AP) - A Charleston man has been arrested after authorities say he took thousands of dollars from a Holly Hill church.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell tells local media that 55-year-old William Holmes is facing a charge of breach of trust with fraudulent intent in connection with allegations from 2014 and earlier.

Members of Last Call Ministry in Holly Hill contacted the sheriff’s office in 2014 to say that a contractor had been hired in 2012 to make improvements to a church building. An incident report says the church paid the contractor $20,000. However, once the contractor was paid in early 2012, he could no longer be contacted.

Orangeburg County Magistrate Meree Williamson set Holmes’ bond at $5,000. Holmes’ attorney had asked the court for a “reasonable bond” of $1,000 to $1,500.
