CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Casper College says it will start a program to help ease military veterans into higher education this fall.

In a statement Friday, the college says it is among 30 schools in the nation and the only one in Wyoming to be selected as a new Peer Advisors for Veteran Education partner campus.

Lisa Goss will identify current student veterans who can mentor three to five new student veterans on campus as part of a program she hopes will improve veterans’ academic performance and retention and graduation rates, and help them in careers or more advanced education later.

Goss is a veteran and Casper College’s Hathaway scholarship coordinator.

The Peer Advisors for Veteran Education Program is part of a University of Michigan network supporting service members, veterans, and military families.
