WOODBURY, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man convicted of fatally shooting his ex-wife just days after she told authorities he was stalking her has been sentenced to 61 years in state prison.

Officials have said Charles Sawyer bound 53-year-old Rita Sawyer with duct tape and shot her at point-blank range in the living room of her Glassboro home in July 2012.

Sawyer had told Glassboro police a few days earlier that her 62-year-old ex-husband was stalking and harassing her. But Gloucester County prosecutors say she never filed for a restraining order against the Glassboro man.

The couple had been divorced since 2004.

Charles Sawyer was convicted in February on numerous counts, including felony murder, kidnapping, burglary and aggravated assault.
