ATLANTA (AP) - Prosecutors say a suburban Atlanta man has been sentenced to life plus five years in prison after fatally shooting his wife last year.

Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://on-ajc.com/1sKbo6f ) in a news release that Rupert Clarke was convicted of murder and other charges Friday in the death of his wife Rosemarie Lebert.

The newspaper reported that the couple was arguing over finances when he shot her several times.

The release says after Clarke shot his wife, he went upstairs, removed the magazine from the gun and threw it under the bed. He hid the gun behind the dresser and later surrounded to police.

The couple’s son was home at the time of the shooting. He saw his father standing over his mother with a gun before calling 911.
