MINOT, N.D. (AP) - Negotiators for the Minot Public School Board and the Minot Education Association have come together on a tentative agreement for teacher contracts during the upcoming school year.

The Minot Daily News (https://bit.ly/1TwiGUL) reports that the base salary for a beginning teacher would improve by $500 to more than $39,000 under the tentative agreement.

Business manager Scott Moum says the salary and benefits package would cost roughly an additional $2 million for the school district, a bump of nearly 4 percent.

That amount includes the base salary hike for new teachers and the cost of an anticipated health insurance increase, among other expenses.

The Minot Public School Board still must approve the agreement, which would also have to be ratified by the education association.
