WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (AP) - Muscatine County officials have approved advancing a proposal to build a shooting range in the eastern Iowa city of West Liberty.

The Muscatine Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1smRxsQ ) that Board of Supervisors on Monday authorized the board chairman to sign a letter to the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department Monday approving the range.

Conservation Director Curt Weiss says officials hope the process will begin in the fall. Although the range will be open to the public, law enforcement agencies could use the range as well for training or other needs. The public will be required to receive training before using the range.
