JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a western New York man has surrendered after barricading himself inside a home with a shotgun and an 8-month-old baby.

The standoff started shortly before 9 p.m. Friday in Jamestown.

Police say 25-year-old Darin Buvoltz barricaded himself inside a bedroom with the child and the gun.

Police negotiators responded and nearby houses were evacuated.

Jamestown police officers made telephone contact with Buvoltz and negotiated with him over several hours.

Police say Buvoltz broke a window from inside the house.

They say he turned the baby over and surrendered at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

The baby was not harmed.

Buvoltz is awaiting arraignment on charges including endangering the welfare of a child and criminal mischief.

It’s not clear if he has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
