TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - State authorities say a retired chiropractor has admitted taking more than $250,000 in illegal kickbacks from doctors and others in return for referring patients to their practices, clinics and medical imaging centers.

Alexander Dimeo pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including conspiracy, bribery and money laundering. He faces up to seven years in prison when he’s sentenced Aug. 22.

The 61-year-old Dimeo has homes in Budd Lake and Fort Myers, Florida. He operated Passaic Chiropractic & Therapy Center before he retired last year.

The charges against Dimeo are the second case involving the Attorney General’s recently formed Commercial Bribery Task Force, which targets crimes in the health care industry.
