AURORA, Colo. (AP) - Aurora Fire and Rescue officials say a fire in a six-story senior living apartment building killed one person and injured another.

The Denver Post reports (https://tinyurl.com/jtoe9pb ) that pipes intended to transport water throughout the building weren’t functioning properly and firefighters had to carry hoses up the stairs. Laure Bridges, who is an Aurora fire department lieutenant, said the concrete building did not have a sprinkler system.

Firefighters were notified at about 7:30 p.m. and were able to get the fire under control by 9:30 p.m.

One person died at a hospital. The second had moderate injuries and was hospitalized overnight for observation.

Fire officials in the Denver suburb blame unattended cooking for the blaze.
