GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities in western Michigan say a driver told deputies he fell asleep while driving before the sport utility vehicle left the road, went into a ditch and struck a driveway abutment, killing a 19-year-old female passenger.

The single-vehicle crash occurred 5:20 a.m. Sunday in Ottawa County, about 15 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. The 20-year-old driver was treated for his injuries and released.

The names of the woman and the driver have not been released. Deputies say neither was wearing a seat belt.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says the investigation is continuing.
