CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities have confirmed that a body found in a marsh on James Island over the weekend is that of an 80-year-old woman who disappeared a day earlier.

Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin tells local media outlets that the body of Marie Duddy of James Island was found Saturday night.

Authorities made the discovery just hours after a 20-hour search was called off.

Authorities say the woman suffered from dementia and wandered off Friday afternoon.

The cause of death was not immediately released.
