FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Northern Arizona University will no longer offer free parking on weeknights.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1YJDkRj) that university officials say three sites that still offer free parking in the evenings will require a permit beginning Aug. 1.

The Health and Learning Center, Ardrey Auditorium and the South Commuter lot all allow parking without a paid permit after 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

NAU spokeswoman Cindy Brown says people who need to attend classes or meetings nearby have had difficulty finding parking.

The university has not yet determined how many permits it will give out and how much they will cost.

Any money will go toward parking lot and garage maintenance as well as operations costs.

Parking in those lots on Friday evenings and weekends will not require a permit.
