WEST COVINA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County authorities say a man wanted for shooting and wounding a West Covina police officer should be considered armed and dangerous.

The Sheriff’s Department says Jose Luis Chavez is wanted on suspicion of attempted murder of an on-duty officer.

Investigators believe the 47-year-old fired several rounds after the officer tried to detain him late Friday.

The officer was shot in the chest and was taken to a hospital. He was released Sunday and is continuing his recovery at home.

Authorities say the officer fired back but they don’t know if Chavez was hit.
