PITTSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Chatham County have rescued two kayakers who were stranded in the Haw River during a storm.

News outlets report that the man and woman were stuck in the river for hours before being rescued by a crew in a helicopter Sunday night near U.S Route 64. The rescue was delayed because of lightning in the area.

Officials say the unidentified victims were not injured, but could have suffered from hypothermia.

Rescue swimmers were also in the water to help during the rescue.
