DETROIT (AP) - A $2 million gift to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will help support free community concerts.

The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/20pP6AX ) the funding from the DTE Energy Foundation is in large part earmarked to support three more years of Community Concert Week, which is presented by the orchestra each fall across the region.

Part of the gift from the charitable arm of Detroit-based utility DTE Energy Co. will fund a DSO endowment in support of music education and other community programming. DTE has sponsored the fall community concerts since 2011.

An event is scheduled for Monday at DTE’s headquarters featuring a pair of Detroit Symphony Orchestra performances.

Four free Community Concert Week shows are planned in September. The public is invited to nominate potential venues.
