MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) - An attraction is planned featuring an elevated walk through the trees at The Dow Gardens in Midland.

The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation recently announced plans for the Canopy Walk & Connectivity project at Whiting Forest, which includes about 50 acres of forest, meadows and wetlands. The 1,100-foot-long walk will take visitors as high as 40 feet above the forest floor.

The canopy walk will be open year-round. It will include views highlighting the sky and an apple orchard, the forest and ponds.

Two pedestrian bridges are planned as part to better connect the gardens with the forest.

A visitor center is planned at the former home of Macauley and Helen Whiting. And a playground also is planned as part of the project.
