NEW YORK (AP) - Fire officials say an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s and her home health aide were severely burned in a fire at the woman’s New York City apartment over the weekend.

The blaze broke out Saturday morning on the first floor of a three-story Queens home.

Firefighters tell the New York Daily News that Marjorie Idasiak was rescued from the second floor. Idasiak and her health aide were both hospitalized in critical condition.

Firefighters say a family of four on the third-floor of the Jackson Heights home had to huddle near a rear window to breathe. That family wasn’t hurt.

Several people suffered minor injuries related to smoke inhalation and were taken to an area hospital.

It wasn’t immediately clear what ignited the fire.
