HOUMA, La. (AP) - Deputies say a Houma man has been charged in connection with the overdose death of a woman at a hotel.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Maj. Malcolm Wolfe tells The Courier (https://bit.ly/22lnoXB) that 18-year-old Charles Hammond III is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Christy Hurst.

Wolfe says Hammond was at the Economy Inn on Dec. 3 when Hurst died from a heroin overdose. He didn’t release any other details about Hammond’s involvement.

Hammond is the second suspect charged in Hurst’s death. Twenty-seven-year-old Shantelle White was arrested Dec. 20 in Hurst’s death.

Both Hammond and White remain in jail. It is unclear whether they have attorneys.
