POINT LOOKOUT, N.Y. (AP) - A Long Island town is beefing up its “boating while intoxicated” patrols ahead of the Memorial Day weekend.

Supervisor Anthony J. Santino says the Town of Hempstead also is working to increase awareness of the dangers of boating while using alcohol or drugs.

The town’s bay constables will be patrolling waterways to help keep boaters safe.
