PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Maine Ethics Commission is considering a complaint from a Portland man that a state representative and senate candidate sent a mailer to voters without disclosing financing.

Steven Biel’s complaint against Democratic Rep. Ben Chipman will go before the commission on Wednesday. Biel contends that a glossy mailing supporting Chipman was not exempt from financial disclosure requirements.

Chipman’s camp has dismissed the complaint as election year politics. A spokesman for Chipman says the campaign checked with the ethics commission before sending out the mailing and informed them about how it was paid for.

The spokesman says Chipman will work directly with the ethics commission on the complaint.

Biel has been supporting Democratic Rep. Diane Russell, who is also running for the state senate seat. The primary is June 14.
