YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The Yankee Air Museum in Michigan is part of a USO-led effort to collect and send messages of gratitude to active U.S. military personnel stationed worldwide.

The Ann Arbor News reports (https://bit.ly/1TyjJSO ) the museum on Saturday holds “Celebrate and Connect,” an event encouraging visitors to write messages. Museum executive director Kevin Walsh says the museum is working with the United Service Organizations, known as the USO, on the effort.

Melissa Frutos is chairwoman for “Celebrate and Connect.” Her husband is serving in the Air National Guard and she says: “We value our nation’s military, past, present and future and this provides us with an important connection to our servicemen and women.”

The museum holds its annual Memorial Day program next week. Details are posted online.
