PHOENIX (AP) - Police in Phoenix have identified a man who died after he complained of chest pains, then refused treatment and ran into a street.

They say it’ll be up to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death of 40-year-old Brian Steen.

He was pronounced dead Friday at a hospital.

The Phoenix Fire Department was called to a store about 7:30 a.m. because a man was complaining of chest pains.

When firefighters arrived, Steen became combative, refused treatment and ran away.

Firefighters contacted police, who found Steen in the middle of a street.

Steen became combative with officers when they tried to move him out of traffic and keep him safe.

Police say Steen was taken to the ground and handcuffed before he went into medical distress.
