DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Gov. Terry Branstad has canceled a day of public events in Iowa because he has a cold.

A press release says Branstad’s office will reschedule two events set for Monday because the governor has “a bout of seasonal illness.” Spokesman Ben Hammes later said Branstad developed a cold over the weekend.

The press release says the cancellation is “out of an abundance of caution” and the governor will rest Monday at home.

Branstad was scheduled to sign legislation in Mason City and speak at an event in Urbandale.
