BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana House has a new member.

Edmond Jordan, a Democrat from Baton Rouge, was elected earlier this month to fill the seat left vacant by the recent death of Ronnie Edwards from cancer. Jordan was sworn in Monday.

The district includes parts of north Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge Parish.

Jordan, a Port Allen-based lawyer, arrives in the House with only two weeks remaining in the regular legislative session, but a likely June special session on taxes is expected. He defeated four other candidates to win the position.
