SENECA, S.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man has drowned in a South Carolina lake.

Oconee County coroner Karl Addis said in a statement that 68-year-old Leo Cameron Pace of Asheville, North Carolina, was pronounced dead at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca late Monday afternoon.

Addis said Pace was found floating face down in Lake Keowee near Stamp Creek Landing near Seneca about 3:30 p.m. Monday. He was declared dead at the hospital less than an hour later.

The coroner says Pace was found about 30 feet from the shoreline in waist deep water.

Addis says a pet dog was found nearby, with a beach chair, beach bag and other personal belongings. Pace routinely took his dog to the lake.

The coroner says an autopsy is planned. The death is still under investigation.
