CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - A man and a 4-year-old child are recovering after they were struck by a vehicle outside of a Chesterfield elementary school.

Local news agencies report the incident happened Monday morning at Falling Creek Elementary School.

Chesterfield Police say a county utilities vehicle was backing out of the general services area at the school when the man carrying the child walked behind the vehicle.

The vehicle backed into the man and the child, knocking them down.

The child was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say charges in the case are still pending.
