LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities in Los Angeles County say a suspect was arrested after a California Highway Patrol officer was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver in the Topanga area.

The Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/22qbCLD) the officer was investigating a minor traffic collision and directing traffic Wednesday night when she was struck by a car and thrown to the ground.

CHP Officer Leland Tang says the people who had been involved in the prior collision came to the aid of the officer and notified the CHP, through the officer’s radio, that she had been struck.

Tang says with the help of some Topanga residents, CHP officers were able to apprehend the driver a short distance away. The driver was not immediately identified.

The newspaper says the injured officer, a 14-year veteran of the CHP, is expected to survive.
