DELAND, Fla. (AP) - A hearing over the removal of a small central Florida city’s mayor can move ahead.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://goo.gl/d7AOgc) reports that a judge on Thursday denied an attempt by DeBary Mayor Clint Johnson to block the city council hearing. Judge Sandra Upchurch ruled that Johnson had failed to meet the burden of proof for getting an injunction preventing the hearing.

The city council is meeting Wednesday to determine if Johnson violated city charter rules that prohibit council members from giving orders to city staff.

Johnson’s attorney says the mayor’s actions never violated the charter.
