NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Jurors in Newark have heard closing arguments in the trial of a man charged in the brutal beating of a woman during a home invasion robbery that was caught on a nanny cam.

Shawn Custis is charged with attempted murder and other offenses stemming from the 2013 attack in Millburn.

The 45-year-old Newark resident was arrested after several women who knew him identified him after seeing the video on TV.

Custis’s attorney has focused on racist comments made by a police officer that also were caught on tape after they arrived at the crime scene.

He says Custis wasn’t the intruder and that police focused on him and ignored evidence that could have implicated someone else.

The victim testified Wednesday and identified Custis as her attacker.
