SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A Methuen man authorities say tried to take his own life when he drove his pickup truck head-on into another vehicle, severely injuring two Lawrence teenagers, has been indicted.

The Salem News (https://bit.ly/1TGQQ6V ) reports that 34-year-old Deybet Blanco was arraigned Wednesday in Salem on charges including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Authorities say Blanco wanted to kill himself March 2 when he crashed into a car carrying 18-year-old Julio Berroa and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Oscaris Pimental, in Lawrence.

Pimental was treated at the hospital and released. Berroa remains in critical condition.

Blanco’s lawyer says his client isn’t mentally competent to stand trial, citing an evaluation from Bridgewater State Hospital.

Blanco, who remains held without bail, is due back in court July 13.
