EAST MILLCREEK, Utah (AP) - A junior high teacher in suburban Salt Lake City has been placed on administrative leave after school officials say she told several seventh-graders to put duct tape over their mouths for talking too much in class.

District spokesman Ben Horsley told the Deseret News (https://tinyurl.com/jyb9j44 ) that Monday’s incident involving a “small handful” of students is under investigation at Wasatch Junior High School in East Millcreek.

Horsley says the teacher who has been with the district for 29 years didn’t actually place the tape on the youths, but could face disciplinary action after telling them to do it themselves. School officials learned of the incident when a student sent out a photograph from class.

Horsely says asking a student to place duct tape on his or her mouth would never be appropriate.
