A new Chinese ad for laundry detergent that shows a light-skinned Asian woman shoving a black man into a washing machine is being dubbed the most racist ad of the year.

The ad for Qiaobi-brand detergent starts out with a black man covered in paint splatters catcalling a light-skinned Asian woman as she does the laundry. As the man leans in to kiss her, the woman crams a detergent capsule into his mouth and violently shoves him head first into the washing machine.

After the wash cycle is complete, a light-skinned Asian man in clean clothes emerges from the machine, much to the woman’s delight.

The ad has gained widespread attention since appearing on television and before movies at Wanda Cinemas this month, The Huffington Post reported.

According to the Shanghaiist, the ad is a “blatant ripoff” of a series of Italian laundry detergent ads that were aired almost a decade ago. The ads even featured the same music.
