MILWAUKEE (AP) - Green Bay Packers wide receiver Ty Montgomery is helping to promote the need for foster parents across Wisconsin.

Montgomery’s mother, Lisa, has fostered 17 children as her son was growing up. Lisa Montgomery says Ty needed some brothers to play with, so she jumped into foster care.

The Coalition for Children, Youth and Families recruits and supports foster families. Coalition CEO Oriana Carey says 350 to 400 children across Wisconsin are removed from their homes each month because of safety concerns or neglect. Carey says the need for stable foster homes has significantly increased in recent years, partly due to drug addiction.

Public service announcements and billboards are part of a two-year statewide campaign aimed at recruiting new foster parents.

Montgomery says he eventually plans to become a foster parent and possibly adopt.
