WEST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after an 82-year-old woman was hit by a charter bus in New Jersey and died.

Essex County prosecutors and township police officials say Dilma Khan had been crossing a street Thursday morning in West Orange when she was hit by a DeCamp commuter bus.

Police rushed to help the West Orange woman, but officials say she died at the scene about a half-hour later.

Investigators say the driver called police and tried to help.

The bus is owned by New Jersey Transit, but operated by DeCamp. The company says it is looking into the incident but declined to comment further.

No charges have been filed.
