MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Police recovered the body of a Vermont man from the Winooski River in Montpelier.

They say 44-year-old Ulysses McLean, of Barre, was recovered from the north branch of the river on Thursday afternoon.

WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Z5JDis) A group of high school students first reported seeing him face down in the water as they prepared to put in canoes shortly after noon.

An autopsy will be conducted.
