PELL CITY, Ala. (AP) - A coroner says a 13-year-old who collapsed at her school’s field day died of a heart problem.

St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell says natural causes are to blame for the death of Maddison Wentworth of Pell City.

Police Chief Greg Turley says the sixth grader was playing tug-of-war with other students during field day at Williams Intermediate School when she collapsed on May 19.

School nurses and paramedics tried to revive the girl, but she was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Authorities haven’t said whether the child had a medical problem before her death.
