JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa. (AP) - Police say the owner of a motel in the Pittsburgh suburbs was fatally shot while working behind the front desk.

Allegheny County police are trying to determine whether the shooting at the Jefferson Hills Motel early Friday was part of a robbery or some other kind of event.

Seventy-eight-year-old Dehnad “Dan” Taiedi (ty-EE’-dee) died at the scene after being shot about 4:15 a.m.

The motel is named for the suburb of the same name along Route 51 south of Pittsburgh.

Taiedi is a well-known businessman who once operated a nightclub, Someplace Else, along the same highway from 1978 to 1994 before buying the motel.

Police were hoping to review security video for clues about what happened.
