MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The city of Montgomery is unveiling a monument to the Korean War ahead of Memorial Day.

City officials will dedicate the new monument Friday at a downtown park. The monument was designed and donated by Hea Bok Chang, a city resident who is from South Korea and wanted to honor troops who fought for his native land.

Chang lost both parents during the war. He came to American looking for a better life and now calls Alabama home.

Chang began raising funds for the monument last year. He wanted to teach future generations to remember the war and the sacrifices of those who were involved.

Chang will speak during the unveiling along with Korean War Ace Lt. Gen. Charles “Chick” Cleveland.
