COCOA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Cocoa police officer has been injured after a suspect ran over his foot during an attempted traffic stop.

Cocoa police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez tells news outlets that Officer Chris Jones on Thursday night pulled over the 16-year-old suspect, who was driving a stolen vehicle.

Martinez says Jones approached the suspect’s car when the teenager ran over Jones’ foot, knocking him to the ground. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect then drove away before crashing into another vehicle. Both the teenager and the driver of the other vehicle were injured.

Officials say a passenger in the suspect’s car fled on foot. Police are still searching for that person.

Martinez says the suspect was arrested and could be facing charges.
