CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities say a runner who collapsed during a road race in Grant Park died of natural causes.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office, 43-year-old Cao Bing of Wilmette died Thursday after collapsing in the 3.5-mile J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge.

A spokesman for the medical examiner said an autopsy Friday found that Bing died of natural causes. He suffered from heart disease and high blood pressure.

Police and fire officials say Bing suffered cardiac arrest during the race and was taken by ambulance to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His age was initially reported as 39.

J.P. Morgan Chase spokeswoman Christine Holevas says the company is aware of the race participant’s death and expresses “sincere condolences to their family, friends and co-workers.”
