SHINE, Wash. (AP) - Authorities have identified a state transportation worker who died after his pickup truck apparently breached a railing and went into the water off Hood Canal Bridge.

The Kitsap County Medical Examiner identified the man Friday as 59-year-old Bruce Cowing, KOMO-TV reports (https://goo.gl/hD6fgN).

Salvage crews recovered Cowing’s body and truck on Thursday.

Searchers began looking for the bridge maintenance worker May 17 after he was missing at the end of his shift the night before. Officials found evidence that a vehicle had breached a pedestrian cable railing on the lower deck of the bridge.

Cowing’s submerged vehicle was found Monday north of the bridge.

Acting state Transportation Secretary Roger has said it may be some time before they know what caused the accident.
