MADISON, Conn. (AP) - Holiday beachgoers will find some improvements at Connecticut’s largest state beach.

A new nature center and bath house will officially be open for the Memorial Day weekend at Hammonasset (ham-uh-NA’-set) Beach State Park in Madison.

The new 4,000-square-foot Meigs Point Nature Center replaces an existing, outdated building. Open year-round, the facility includes exhibit space, an outdoor observation deck for environmental education class and modern restroom facilities. It will be available to educators and the public.

The Friends of Hammonasset raised funds to design, fabricate and install all the exhibits.

A new West Beach Bath House will also be open for the holiday weekend. The 3,430-square-foot structure includes new, modern restrooms and changing areas, offices for Environmental Conservation Police, a first aid station and concessions area with covered outdoor dining.
