ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Long Island’s Jones Beach is getting a $36 million makeover.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the state is paying for upgrades and improvements at the state park. The changes include new retail and concession options and the $16 million restoration of the historic west bathhouse. A final phase, which will add a second-floor dining area and outdoor terrace, is expected to be completed next year.

The Democratic governor also announced the return of Fourth of July fireworks at the beach for the second year in a row. In the past the event has drawn more than 100,000 attendees to the beach.

The state says more than 6 million people visit Jones Beach every year.
