PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Portland officials are setting up a designated space for art vendors to sell wares on days when cruise ships visit the city.

City officials say the “Waterfront Marketplace” will be located in a green space between Maine State Pier and Ocean Gateway. It will be used on days when cruise ships with more than 1,000 passengers are scheduled to be in port.

The city will begin using the new zone on Wednesday. It will mean that on some days vendors will not be able to set up tables on the water side of Thames Street in front of Ocean Gateway or the water side of Commercial Street in the vicinity of Maine State Pier and nearby wharfs.

Grandeur of the Seas is scheduled to arrive on Sunday.
