CAMPTON, N.H. (AP) - As hikers and campers prepare to visit the White Mountain National Forest this year, officials are reminding them to be prepared for unpredictable weather.

Rain, snow and fog are possible throughout the year, and visitors are advised to check forecasts ahead of time. They should pack warm clothing and rain gear. Itineraries should be left with someone back home.

Cellphones have limited or no coverage at all in many areas of the forest. Food and items such as deodorant and toothpaste should be stored in a locked vehicle or bear-resistant container.
