EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police say two people have died and one is in the hospital after an early morning head-on crash east of Eugene. Authorities say an eastbound pickup truck crossed the center line and struck another vehicle at about 12:40 a.m. near Leaburg.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports (https://is.gd/OhUsD6 ) both drivers died at the scene. A passenger was taken to a Springfield hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The highway was shut down for about an hour.

According to police, alcohol consumption by the driver of the pickup truck is being considered as the contributing factor.
